Exam phobia is a common phenomenon among the students. Exam phobia or exam fear is a mental disorder or illness found in the students. There is a fear of facing any examination. The consequences are often extremely disastrous because it may affect the student cognitively, psychologically, emotionally and socially.
There are some symptoms of exam phobia-
- Excessive sweating & palpitations
- Messing up many questions
- Extremely worried about how to perform better and get good marks or grades
- Apprehension about the consequences
- Difficulty concentrating
In exam phobia, many students become upset, tensed and easily frustrated (sometimes). The negative thoughts of students always bother them and their performance. It can also be caused due to lack of preparation & planning, peer competition, low motivation levels and irrational thinking or for any other personal reason.
Students can gain control of their exam fear. They should enhance and boost their confidence. The people around the students must motivate them to bring the best out of them. They should not compare the students with their peers. The students should study daily, exercise regularly, consume a healthy diet, sleep well, stay focused and also do some activity or hobby that makes them feel good.
If your exam phobia or fear becomes uncontrollable, you should go to consult a psychologist or counsellor to get the required help before things get worsened.
